SOPHIE!!!

So we bought our very first dog today! I am SOOOOOO excited I can hardly contain it. We aren't going to pick her up though until after we move the first week of April. The story of how we got Sophie couldn't have played out more perfectly. Chris works nights, so we we're looking for a buddy to be at the house and make me feel safe. That's when Chris got really hooked on dobermans. The thing is a good doberman can range from $1,800-???. And that doesn't include shots, etc. We were pretty convinced we would buy from this breeder in VA. But they were selling their dogs for $2,500. Which is a lot for poor college students. We called another breeder who lives about 1 1/2 from us to see what she had available. She didn't have any puppies, but when Chris explained the situation and what we were looking for she said she might have a solution. She had 3- 6yr old female dogs that she was done breeding that she was trying to place in a home (and was selling them A LOT cheaper). So we planned on coming down for the weekend to check them out and see if one would be a good match for our family. Well...we weren't able to go down over the weekend but set up an appointment to go down today.
When we got there she had even better news. A lady who had bought a dog from her 3 years ago was moving and couldn't take the dog so she had brought her back for the breeder to find the dog a new home.
She is as sweet as can be. Already trained, mellow/yet not boring, loves to cuddle (its like she cant get close enough to you) and LOVES to please. Her and Savannah hit it off right away. Sophie (the dog) came up to Savannah and Savannah went right up to her and kissed her on the nose, it was the SWEETEST thing! Sophie was VERY gentle with Savannah. We are VERY excited to be able to bring our Sophie home...not till April though! The breeder was nice enough to hold on to her for us until we moved out of my parent's house.

SO EXCITED I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN IT!!!!

Airplanes and Cars

We went to Idaho this last week. Poor Savannah was SOOOO sick of the driving by the time we got home. Poor kid! Surprisingly she did GREAT on the plane ride home. The only time she really even cried was when she pulled the tray in front of her down and it smacked her in the face...so she had every right to cry! She made a few friends with all the people behind us.
She was very entertained with her train book she got from Aunt Julia, Uncle Randy, and cousin Parker for her birthday. We drove the train on the tray table and say "CHOO CHOO" she would giggle every time I said "choo choo!" Thank you Randy, Julia and Parker!
At one point I was reading a book with her. Baby's First Colors, each page has a different color theme with pictures of something in that color. On the yellow page there was a picture of a banana and three other yellow items. She grabbed at the banana and "shoved" it in her mouth with a gulp sound. I was laughing SOOOO hard. I've never seen her do that before and frankly I have NO idea where she got it from. Then she did it again, only this time put her hand up to my mouth as if to feed me and said "Mmmmm".

Belly Button

Today in the bath tub Savannah discovered her belly button! It was SO funny, she kept pinching it as if to try to pull it off. She even attempted to say belly button, but it came out like "bee bum". The rest of the evening was spent asking her where her belly button was!

She also has a new love of pillow fights! I haven't seen her laugh that hard since we visited my grandmother's dog!

Savannah's Mischief!

I was making dinner the other night, while Savannah was crawling/walking along the cabinets hanging out with London (my parents German Shepard). Savannah started playing with the door to London's kennel. A few minutes later I look over and Savannah has shut herself and London in the kennel! I wish I had a camera handy at that moment, but I didn't. Sorry you'll just have to imagine it!

One Determined Kiddo

Savannah can be a very messy eater. One day after a particularly messy meal I put her in the bath tub with the water running and unplugged to give her a quick rinse before her nap. I turned around to get some soap to wash off her extremely sticky legs. When I turned back towards Savannah she had the tub stopper and was trying to force it upside down into the drain. She was determined to have time to play in the bath!

"Thankfuls!"

Someone once told me that silverware that wasn't used at a place setting were called thankfuls, because you didn't have to wash them. Such a small thing to be thankful for. Today I am thankful for:
  • my testimony of Jesus Christ and the restored gospel
  • a loving, supportive husband
  • a beautiful, sweet daughter
  • a helpful family that has helped us in more ways than they could possibly know
  • awesome friends that keep me going
  • teething tablets and Motrin
  • space heaters
  • hot chocolate
  • Village Natural Therapy foaming bath oil

Lil' Miss Personality

Yesterday I went down to Dad's print shop to help them finish up a project they were working on. Savannah came with me and sat in her stroller for a while till she got tired of that. I was finally brave enough to let her run around the shop, which made me very nervous because I didn't want her to ruin anything!!! In the middle of the shop is a counter top with three open shelves under it. On the very bottom shelf there was a few boxes and a stack of paper. I of course had to move the paper because Savannah wouldn't leave it alone. When I moved the paper it created an empty "crawl space". Savannah kept herself entertained for about 30 minutes crawling through the space to the other side of the counter and back. She sat in the shelf giggling and then would crawl back out, proud of her discovery of a new "play place". I wish I had pictures of it, but I don't.

Banana Bread

Over Thanksgiving Savannah discovered banana bread, and now can't seem to get enough! This morning when she woke up I fed her a bottle. Which she drank quickly and was ready for more. We went down stairs fixed another half of a bottle and then I grabbed a piece of banana bread for myself. The second Savannah saw the banana bread she forgot ALL about her bottle. She was SOOOO excited. She was actually shaking, she was that excited!

NASA Space Center

Today was a LONG, but fun day! For the adults at least. It was a little rough for poor lil' Savannah. 1 hour ride there, mostly sitting in her stroller or being held and over an hour ride back! Needless to say she was frustrated by the time we got home! But very happy to be out of her seat and playing in the bath tub. Unfortunately I forgot the camera so we don't have any pictures. Savannah had fun in one of the exhibits at the Space Center. The things hanging from the ceiling kept her thoroughly entertained (for a while at least). She starred up at them with her mouth wide open and an expression that seemed to say "why are they up there, and how do I get up there." She tried to reach the astronaut suit that was hanging, but was too short to reach it. In one of the presentations Savannah was making one of her noises that can not acuately be described but I will attempt it. It almost sounds like Donald Duck's laugh...but not...ok that's as close as I can get. Anyway! SO she's making her "not quite Donald Duck" noise and the guy behind us sticks his tongue out at her, so of course she wanted to play, which got WAY too loud for the presentation. However it was pretty funny.

Info: I am training to run 26.2 miles in the Nashville, TN Country Music Marathon. I'm super excited. I've never run a marathon before, but have always wanted to.
